From Strategy Eye:
U2 singer Bono is launching a subscription music service to help raise money for AIDS charity, the Global Fund. (Red) Wire, part of the (Red) project that raises money selling (Red)-branded products, will offer users exclusive music each week for a monthly fee of USD5.
The service goes live on December 1 - World AIDS Day. To mark the launch, MSN Music is hosting a (Red) Wire microsite that will post new videos of acts featuring on the download service. (Red) has also signed promotional deals with a number of UK sites, including Metro, Bebo and LinkedIn. They will run (Red) branding on the day of the launch, reports New Media Age. Subscribers to (Red) Wire will receive new tracks every Wednesday, which will be added automatically to users' iTunes accounts. Coldplay, The Killers, John Legend, REM and Elton John are among the acts who have agreed to contribute new songs to the service.
(Red) was co-founded by Bono and philanthropist Bobby Shriver - John F Kennedy's nephew. The organisation has partnered with companies including Apple, Converse, Dell and Gap to produce branded goods.
